New Year Means New Opportunities
Tuesday, January 5, 2016
The ball dropped and the champagne popped...Happy New Year, everybody! We hope that you're as excited about 2016 as we are.
The new year for me has usually just meant that I'll be re-writing checks because I put the wrong date on them! But thinking about the meaning of the New Year's Eve celebration and why so many people around the world spend so much time (and money!) planning their activities for the night, plus seeing how much joy it brings my kids to pop the confetti, I've started to change my opinion on the New Year celebrations.
A new year means a fresh start. It means that many of us are setting goals and resolutions for what we want to accomplish over the next 12 months. Aside from personal plans, you may also be setting some targets and laying out new programs for your business operations as well. These goals signify new opportunities for improvement.
For OTF, we have big plans for the new year. We want to provide more value for your membership, so this year, we'll be revising existing programs and introducing new ones to provide you with more chances to connect with your peers, gain insight into new products and services and of course, gain insight into the latest science from our world-renowned team of experts at Ohio State and other programs throughout the region.
So what should you expect?
Turf News Magazine
While we've had a great relationship with and are grateful for the tremendous work of our previous publishing partner, we have made the decision to manage our official publication in-house. For you, the OTF member, this means a bigger and better product. It means that our publication will contain more content, will highlight more of our members and will dig a little deeper on the happenings of the Foundation and our stakeholders.
We'll also be revising the way the content is delivered. We will be delivering two of these publications as printed versions (spring and fall), while the other four will be digitally enhanced versions delivered to you via email. If you still prefer the printed version, the digital versions will be formatted so that you may print the content of interest to you.
The digitally enhanced versions will also give us the opportunity to include videos to supplement content featured in the magazine. People learn in different ways and like to consume their content in various formats...these enhanced versions will allow us to bring articles to life and potentially demonstrate some of what's featured in the articles.
We know that there's no better way to share ideas than when you're in the same room, socializing and getting to know your peers. This is why we're planning several events that will be FREE for OTF members to attend. These will be casual events for our members to gather in a relaxed setting. Look for more information on these to come soon.
Little is more rewarding than helping your assistant achieve new heights. This year, we're planning to help provide sessions for assistants to get a better grasp on the budgeting process, improve their leadership and writing skills, and much more. In addition to the agronomic tools, these are the tools that they'll need to continue advancing in the industry (we'll be offering more of these sessions for the head turf managers as well!).
Did we mention that we're planning on these assistant meetings being free for Individual members and assistants of Corporate members? If you've not done so already, be sure that your assistant is either an individual member or that he or she is an associate member under your corporate membership. This will make sure that they receive the same information and updates as you.
Keep an eye out for more specialized training for sports turf professionals, lawn care professionals, golf course superintendents and more. We're in the process of developing programs catered to the specific needs of your industry!
and of course...
The 50th OTF Conference & Show
2016 marks the 50th time that we've gathered industry professionals together to learn, meet with industry reps and suppliers, network and celebrate as a community. You won't want to miss the annual event scheduled for December 5th - 8th in Columbus!
If you've not done so already, be sure to renew your OTF membership. We're looking forward to 2016 and hope that you'll renew your support of the OTF mission and be an active member of the OTF community.
All the best,
Brian J Laurent
