June 2016 Outlook for Ohio

Written by Dr. Jay Hobgood, The Ohio State University

The average temperature for June will be near normal. Precipitation will also be close to normal for the month.

June marks the beginning of meteorological summer and weather systems tend to move more slowly as the jet stream shifts farther north. High pressure over the Atlantic Ocean will transport warm humid air over Ohio during much of the month.

Occasionally, masses of cooler drier air will move south from Canada and give us a break from the humidity. Clusters of thunderstorms known as Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCSs) can form west of Ohio and bring severe weather to the state. MCSs can bring heavy rain, high winds and hail.

Overall, it looks like we can expect to see the usual mixture of weather that Ohio experiences during June.
