In the late 1960’s, The Ohio State University dedicated 12
acres of land on the Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources
Learning Lab for the purpose of turfgrass research. By 1991, an
adjacent 6 acres was added. In 1996, a new 7000 square foot state-of-the-art
building, largely funded by the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation, was completed.
With the addition of more land, the total acreage of the turfgrass
research complex totals 23 acres.
This state-of-the-art turfgrass research facility is used by the
inter-departmental OSU Turfgrass Science Team, including the Department
of Horticulture & Crop Science, Department of Entomology, Department
of Plant Pathology, and the School of Natural Resources.
Every August, the OSU Turfgrass Research Field Day is held at the
research facility. Hundreds of turfgrass professionals from all
over Ohio and surrounding states attend so that they may learn about
the ongoing research being conducted at OSU.
Each year OTF provides funding to help pay the annual operational
expenses of the facility. Generous support is also provided by Ohio’s
turfgrass industry through donations of equipment and supplies.
This unparalleled support helps make the OTF Research Facility a
leading national facility for turfgrass research.
