In late June, the Pennington Seed Professional Turf team hosted customers from around the country at a 2-day educational Field Day in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Employees and customers alike visited the NexGen Turf Research facility to learn more about Pennington’s grass seed Research and Development program. After NexGen, the group toured local farms that produce much of Pennington’s cool season grass seed followed by a visit to the company’s Seed Production plant in Lebanon – a facility that holds over 2 million pounds of seed.
While at NexGen the group toured 2.5 acres of turf land while also visiting greenhouses, laboratory facilities, rain-out shelters and test plots. Attendees walked away with more insight to breeding for drought tolerance, stand quality and disease resistance (all critically important to those involved in the turfgrass industry).
